Licensing

If you or your business is involved in the sale of alcohol by retail, the supply of alcohol by or on behalf of a members club, the provision of regulated entertainment or late night refreshment then the Licensing Act 2003 applies and you require a Licence to legally carry out these activities.

At CWJ our experienced Licensing Team have successfully acted for many of the local Pubs, Members Clubs, Restaurants, Hotels, Off-Licences, and Leisure Centres and we are able to advise on applications for the following:

  • Premises Licences;
  • Personal Licences;
  • Club Premises Certificates;
  • Provisional Statements;
  • Variations to Premises Licences;
  • Transfer of Premises Licences;
  • Change of Designated Premises Supervisor;
  • Temporary Event Notices;
  • Late night refreshments;
  • Entertainment Licences.

We will guide you through every step of the process (including the prescribed notice and advertising requirements of the Licensing Act 2003) and can advise you on the appropriate steps to take if any objections are raised to your application or you wish to appeal an unsuccessful application.  We are also able to help if the Licensing Authority conducts a review of your Licence with the intention to withdraw it.

All of the applications we submit on behalf of our clients have due regard to the four licensing objectives and to the relevant Licensing Authority’s Statement of Licensing Policy.  The four licensing objectives are, 1) the prevention of crime and disorder, 2) public safety, 3) the protection of children from harm, and, 4) the prevention of public nuisance.

Our local Licensing Authority is Bromley Council which has designated Bromley Town Centre and Beckenham Town Centre as Cumulative Impact Areas.  This is to reflect the number of licensed premises in these areas and means that the Licensing Authority’s intention is to refuse applications for new Licences or to vary existing Licences for premises in those areas, unless it can be shown that the successful application will have no further detrimental impact.  Our expert and local knowledge are applied to all applications which have obvious benefits for applications for Licences in Bromley and Beckenham Town Centre.
