CWJ LLP Golf Day 2008

CWJ held its eagerly anticipated golf event on a very sunny Wednesday 4 June.

The competition was held at Bromley’s magnificent Sundridge Park Golf Course which was founded in 1901. The Club boasts two championship standard eighteen-hole courses, over acres of stunning grounds less than seven miles from central London. In fact Sundridge Park Golf Club holds the world record for being the World's closest thirty six-hole golf club to a major metropolitan centre. This enables commanding, panoramic views of London's landmarks such as Canary Wharf and the famous Wembley Stadium arch. The setting provided the perfect location for our guests to relax and mingle with javelin sporting legend and keen golfer Steve Backley OBE (three world records, three Olympic medals, 13 major championship medals and British record for four consecutive European titles).

There were over 50 golfers competing, so the day commenced with registration and the all-important collection of the several golf balls required to cover the numerous losses that were bound to occur! This was followed by a ploughman’s lunch so that there could be no excuses for poor performance! The competition then commenced on the Open pre Qualifying East course and was fiercely contested by all guests as well as CWJ members of staff.

Nigel Taylor of Nitra Limited won the individual competition with a very respectable 38 points and also collected the longest drive prize. The team event was won by John Hayton, Paul Bailey, Dave Alyward and Nick Parrett with 86 points. Hugh Blake Thomas achieved nearest the pin with John Hayton of Margolis taking away the prize for the most memorable moment after he chipped in from about 70 yards at the 14th hole.

We would like to say that CWJ members of staff were excluded from winning a prize, however no such restriction was in place. CWJ clearly need to practice hard for the next golf day, or stick to what they are good at - the law!
