Clarkson Wright & Jakes LLP solicitors charity sports day

Clarkson Wright & Jakes LLP solicitors in Orpington held its first charity sports day at the HSBC Sports Ground in Beckenham on Friday 15 June.

After weeks of planning and organising eight football teams and four netball teams were finally in place to take part. The teams were made up of local businesses including Vantis McBrides, F W Berringers, Calfordseaden, Barnes Roffe, Lloyds TSB Corporate, Glenny LLP and Amida Sports Club. Amida were the winners of the day, taking home the trophy for both the netball and the football!

The event helped to raise over £1,000 for Headway South East London and North West Kent (SELNWK), a local branch of the national charity, which supports those with head and brain injuries, their families and carers. They also provide information and advice to the public and professionals. This is a small branch of the charity, which is based in the grounds of Goldie Leigh Hospital near Abbey Wood, open four days a week. They have an outreach drop-in centre based in Southwark, and a development worker within Kings College Hospital. The centre offers support, friendship and opportunities for those that attend, and also holds classes in literacy, crafts and the arts. It offers a sense of community at a time when those suffering devastating injuries can feel so isolated. A very worthwhile cause within our local area. The centre’s manager, Allison Brown was there on the day along with development worker Brian Sladen. A member of the charity’s staff, Connie played in the mixed football team as well as one of the charity’s members.
