John Bowden - IFFR Flyer of the Year

The International Fellowship of Flying Rotarians (IFFR) is a group of Rotarians dedicated to promoting Rotary and aviation as an opportunity for fellowship and service. It originated in 1965 in Seattle, USA.

In Mid-August John Bowden, and his son Harry set off on a trip to Kiruna (Lapland) the most northerly town in Sweden. They departed from their small farm strip in Kent using their RV9 and headed towards the Arctic Circle. The pair completed this trek covering over 3,000 miles in just over a week and was described by Harry Bowden as one of the best experiences of his life.

Harry has written an extract in the IFFR newsletter describing the exciting trip into further detail, which includes some stunning photographs.

John was presented with the award of IFFR Flyer of the Year by Polly Vacher, far left in the photo. Polly is a keen aviator herself and has been on two round the world trips which John says “put our trip to Sweden into perspective!” Polly’s trips were to raise funding and recognition for the Flying Scholarships for the Disabled charity. Polly was presented with a cheque to support her fund raising efforts.
