The Three Cities Cycle

On the 27th of August 2014, Robin Evans our former Marketing and Business Development Director embarked on the challenge of cycling nearly 350 miles and reaching 3 of Europe’s iconic cities; London, Amsterdam and Brussels in the process.

In 2012 Robin turned 50 and to "celebrate" he decided to give himself 50 challenges to complete, each one designed to either take him out of his comfort zone or simply get him off his backside to do those things he’d been putting off! The endeavours ranged in difficulty and included; running a 5k race, growing his own fruit & vegetables, learning the basics of piano playing and climbing some hills. The three cities cycle ride was Robin’s final task and was definitely the most gruelling of them all.

To add to the excitement, Robin used this opportunity to raise funds for a charity close to his heart and home; The Pilgrims Hospice, who provide palliative care free of charge to terminally ill patients suffering from Cancer, Heart Failure, respiratory conditions and neurological diseases. Ever the marketer, Robin set himself the goal in 2013/14 of raising £2013.14 for the charity, which he exceeded with the kind help of family, friends and colleagues.

Robin, who can be seen above rather wet at the end of the ride in Brussels' Grand Place, is a keen weekend cyclist and completed The Three Cities Cycle in good time; and is looking forward to doing other multi-day rides in the future. He enjoyed his experience thoroughly due to the camaraderie shown by the group to help and support each other throughout the 4 days. There were some bumps along the way; especially on day two which took him from the Hook of Holland through the coastal sand dunes to Amsterdam and there were a few slip ups too, including one of the riders misjudging a corner and ending up in a Dutch canal.

CWJ would like to congratulate Robin on his wonderful achievements; raising funds for The Pilgrims Hospice, completing The Three Cities Cycle and on completing his 50 challenges.
