A professional executor should be considered if:
- your affairs are complicated
- you are making wills to protect assets from long term care or Inheritance Tax or
- there is no other suitable friend or family member prepared to act
Alternatively you may be an executor yourself but would like the estate to be administered correctly and professionally.
When instructing a professional it is very important that you identify how they charge for the work. Beware of the following:
- an hourly rate. The longer it takes for the estate to be wrapped up the higher the charges
- added extras. Some companies will charge for work that should form part of the Probate service eg the preparation of Inland Revenue forms.
- keeping interest on clients money.
