Changes To The Bankruptcy Application Process

As from 6 April 2016, the process for applying for a debtor’s bankruptcy has changed.

The process will now move to bankruptcy applications online, meaning application forms must be filled in and submitted electronically.

An Adjudicator, a government official working for the Insolvency Service, will review the application and make a decision on papers so there will be no need for the individual to attend a hearing.

Additionally, from that date fees will decrease to £655, £130 of which is for consideration of the application and £525 of which is for managing the bankruptcy. Payments may also be made online.
