Courageous Birth Injuries Teenager Wins £550,000 from NHS

Expert legal advice and appropriate compensation can help victims of medical negligence pick up the pieces and get on with their lives. In one case, a teenage girl who would not let injuries that she suffered during her birth stand in the way of her ambitions has won £550,000 in damages from the NHS trust that managed the hospital where she was born.

During her traumatic delivery, the girl suffered damage to the bundle of nerves that served her right shoulder and arm. As a result, she has been left with significant disabilities but has achieved excellent academic results, is an accomplished horsewoman and is determined to forge a career as a commercial airline pilot.

The NHS trust disputed liability for her injuries but agreed to a financial settlement of the case following negotiations with her legal team. In approving the compromise, the High Court praised the girl for her courage in coming to terms with her disabilities and expressed confidence that she has a very bright future ahead of her.
