Soft-Top Crash Victim Wins £2.3 Million

A young man who suffered life-shattering injuries when a soft-top car in which he was a passenger flipped onto its roof has secured a £2.3 million compensation settlement from the driver's insurers.

The man, who was 19 at the time of the accident, narrowly survived a brain haemorrhage and numerous orthopaedic and facial injuries. He has since endured constant pain in his back, memory and concentration problems, dizzy spells and tinnitus, depression, anxiety and behavioural problems.

A personal injury claim was brought on the man's behalf against the driver of the vehicle, claiming that he had been driving too fast when the convertible struck a kerb and flew off the road. Motor insurers admitted liability and agreed to a £2.3 million lump sum settlement of the claim, which was approved as 'very satisfactory' by the High Court.

The judge paid tribute to the selfless support the man's family had given him since the accident, saying, "Money never fully compensates for injuries like these. I never cease to be amazed and impressed by the way families cope and respond to tragedy and that is very much the case here. I hope that this settlement means that this man's finances are secure for the rest of his life."
