1. Who can witness an Irish passport application in the UK?
In the UK, an Irish passport application must be witnessed by an approved professional such as a notary public or other authorised person. The witness must also confirm that they “personally know” the applicant.
2. What does ‘personally known’ mean for Irish passport applications?
The Irish Passport Office requires that the witness can confirm your identity. This does not mean you must have a prior relationship – our notary service can meet this requirement by verifying your identity in person using photo ID and proof of address.
3. Can a notary public in the UK certify my Irish passport photos?
Yes. We can act as the official witness and also sign and certify your passport photographs in accordance with Irish Passport Office guidelines.
4. Will the Irish Passport Office contact my witness?
Often, a few weeks after submission, the Irish Passport Office will call the witness to confirm that they met you in person and verified your ID. We regularly provide this confirmation on behalf of clients.
5. Can you help avoid delays with my Irish passport application?
Yes. By ensuring that all witnessing, ID verification and passport photo certification meet Irish Passport Office requirements, we can help you avoid common delays and ensure your application is processed smoothly.
