A man who suffered permanent disability after he was involved in a collision while riding his motorbike has secured substantial compensation.
He sustained a spinal cord injury in the collision and was left with no motor or sensory function below his chest. About a year later he was diagnosed with a post-traumatic spinal cord syrinx, a rare complication of spinal cord injury, which worsened his condition.
He had commenced a personal injury claim shortly after the accident. Interim payments were secured, ensuring that he had access to support and rehabilitation and enabling a prompt investigation of his post-traumatic spinal cord syrinx.
Following extensive negotiations, a settlement of his claim for a lump sum of £14 million was agreed. The settlement includes funds to pay for his future care and equipment needs, suitably adapted accommodation and wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
